Social Studies 9

“I have never let schooling interfere with my education.” — Mark Twain / Artwork: Calvin and Hobbes, Bill Watterson

The ninth grade is an important transitional year for young people. Indeed, research has even shown that freshman year is a reliable predictor of future academic and career successes and struggles. Because of this, the SS department has launched Social Studies 9, a required (one semester) course for ninth graders designed to introduce them to high school. More specifically, we intend to acquaint our newest students — you — with the many resources available to them at ELHS, help them to understand our educational philosophy, and equip them with the most important skills they will need as they begin their high school journeys.

Below are links to our units of study for the course. Therein you will find descriptions of our learning targets, daily activities, assignments, and assessments. This course website will be updated regularly so be sure to come here first if you miss class, can’t find a resource/handout, or have questions about something.
