Homework Due:
For today, read and take notes on pages 349-361. Take notes that focus on the terms and learning objectives.

Daily Goal(s):
There are a couple of goals today:

1) understand the functions of working memory
2) understand how and what our working memory encodes.

Lesson Plan:
We’ll open class today with a couple of short introductory exercises. First, we’ll tell a story as a group. Then, we’ll create a sentence as a group. Lastly, we’ll partake in a short memory exercise offered by psychologist Christopher Chabris:

Afterwards we’ll debrief a bit and try to hypothesize about the results.

Next, we’ll watch this short talk on the working memory. The book did a decent job of explaining the functions of our working memory and the talk will reinforce a lot of that information (though the speaker is more thought-provoking than the book.

Then, we’ll segue into what you read. There will be a lecture/discussion on what you read and I’ll make a concept web on the board to help link things together.

Lastly, we’ll close class with some different memory tests. You’re welcome to apply any strategies you picked up to “beat the test.” We’ll debrief a bit on how the memory test relates to various aspects of the chapter.
